About 2-3 years after coming to know Christ, during the time our family was walking through more intense persecution, the Lord gave me a dream.
In my dream I saw the soccer field at our school in Na Fon. The soccer field was filled with the people from our village. I could hear them singing, "Then sings my soul, my savior God to thee. How great thou art, how great thou art." My entire village was gathered together worshiping Jesus Christ, the one true God.
I believe this is the dream on God's heart for my village, that one day He would be worshiped in Na Fon as the one true God.
There are approximately 500 families living in Na Fon. Out of those 500, there are 9 followers of Jesus who have all made out an outward statement of their faith in Jesus through water baptism. There are about 4-5 who are regularly coming to church and showing sincere interest in following Jesus.
The choice to follow Jesus in Na Fon, and many other villages, comes with great sacrifice of social norms and relationships. In Na Fon we lose our rights that would normally be ours just by being a member of our village/neighborhood.
A Thai Buddhist often takes their time learning about Jesus while observing and building relationships with other Christians before they will accept Jesus as their personal savior.
The religion of Buddhism runs deep in our culture. Buddhism impacts every part of our daily life. Following Jesus changes the way we do our day-to-day life in a drastic way. It's completely new to a Buddhist.
Our families don't understand and are afraid for us. They fear there will be repercussions from spirits not just on us, but on them as well. They feel like we are rejecting them as their family. We no longer attend temple together, religious festivals, or the sacrifices during holidays.
This is why we long to be back in Thailand to share Jesus with those who do not know Him yet, and disciple those who are leaving everything behind to follow after Jesus. We long for the day when the dream of the soccer field in Na Fon being filled with worship to Jesus actually happens.
